Siam Park and Loro Parque are the two crown jewels of Tenerife — both regularly named among the best parks in the world. But they are completely different days out, and nearly every visitor asks us the same thing: which one should I choose? Want slides, adrenaline and water? → Siam Park (south, Costa Adeje). Love animals — orcas, dolphins, penguins? → Loro Parque (north, Puerto de la Cruz). Travelling with mixed ages or can't decide? → grab the Twin Ticket and do both, cheaper.
Siam Park — the world's best water park
Sitting on the hill right above Costa Adeje — minutes from most of our villas — Siam Park is regularly voted the number-one water park on the planet. Expect the largest wave pool in the world, the stomach-dropping Tower of Power slide through a shark tank, lazy rivers and a beautiful Thai theme throughout. In summer it even opens after dark for Siam Night.
Best for: teens, couples, groups of friends and anyone who loves a thrill on a hot day. Little ones have their own Lost City play area, but bear in mind there is a fair amount of walking and stairs.
Loro Parque — far more than a zoo
Up in the green north near Puerto de la Cruz (about an hour's drive), Loro Parque is consistently rated one of the finest animal parks in the world. Orcas, dolphins, a huge penguin colony, gorillas, an impressive aquarium and the largest parrot collection anywhere all live here, set in lush botanical gardens.
Best for: families with children of all ages, animal lovers and anyone who prefers a calmer, more shaded day at a gentler pace.
