Costa Adeje Travel Guide: What to See, Do & Where to Stay

The sunny south-west of Tenerife, hosted by people who live here. Our honest local guide to the beaches, the restaurants and the best places to base yourself.

Costa Adeje is where most of our guests choose to stay — and for good reason. It is the polished, family-friendly heart of southern Tenerife: golden sandy beaches, calm Atlantic water, palm-lined promenades and some of the island's best restaurants, all wrapped in 22–26 °C sunshine almost every day of the year. We are Ronaldo and Mane, local hosts born and raised in the Canary Islands, and this is the guide we wish every visitor had.

Why Costa Adeje?

Costa Adeje sits on the south-west coast of Tenerife, just north of Playa de las Américas. Where Las Américas leans towards nightlife, Costa Adeje is calmer, greener and a notch more refined — think upmarket hotels, manicured promenades and the kind of beaches you can walk for an hour. It is genuinely good for everyone: couples, families with young children, and groups of friends all find their version of a holiday here.

It also makes the perfect base. From Costa Adeje you can reach Siam Park in minutes, drive up to Mount Teide in around an hour, and head to Los Gigantes or La Laguna on a relaxed day trip. Most of our Tenerife villas are right here, so you are never far from the beach, a supermarket or a great dinner.

The best beaches in Costa Adeje

Playa del Duque

The most elegant beach on this stretch of coast. Soft golden sand (much of it imported and beautifully kept), gentle water, smart beach clubs and an upmarket promenade behind it. Sun loungers and parasols are available, and the swimming is calm enough for children. Come early in high season to claim a good spot.

Playa de Fañabé

A long, lively, family-friendly beach that runs almost seamlessly into Playa Torviscas. Plenty of space, lifeguards, watersports, and a wide promenade lined with cafés and ice-cream stops. This is the easy, do-everything beach — perfect if you have kids and want amenities close by.

La Caleta

Technically a small fishing village rather than a big sandy beach, but we send every guest here at least once. La Caleta has rocky coves, clear water for a swim and snorkel, a lovely seafront walk, and the best concentration of fresh-fish restaurants in the area. It is also one of the finest spots on the island to watch the sun drop into the Atlantic.

Local tip

For the calmest swimming with kids, head to Playa del Duque or the sheltered end of Fañabé. For sunset and seafood, it has to be La Caleta — arrive before sundown and stay for dinner.

Things to do in Costa Adeje

Siam Park

Regularly rated among the best water parks in the world, Siam Park sits right above Costa Adeje. The Thai-themed slides, wave pool and lazy river make for a brilliant full day out — go early, and consider a fast-pass on busy days.

Aqualand & family days

Nearby Aqualand in Costa Adeje is a great, slightly gentler alternative for families with younger children, with dolphin shows and plenty of smaller slides.

Whale and dolphin watching

The waters off the south-west coast are home to resident pods of pilot whales and dolphins all year round. Boat trips leave from Puerto Colón and the marinas nearby — choose a smaller, responsible operator for the best experience, and bring a layer as it can be breezy on the water.

Dining in La Caleta and beyond

Eat where the fish comes off the boats: La Caleta is the obvious choice for fresh seafood with your feet almost in the sea. Closer to the resort centre you will find everything from casual Canarian guachinches-style cooking to polished fine dining. Order the local papas arrugadas with mojo at least once.

Getting around

Costa Adeje is walkable along the seafront, and taxis are easy for short hops. But to really see Tenerife — Teide, Masca, the green north, the hidden beaches — you will want your own wheels. Public transport exists but eats into your day. We always recommend renting a car so you can leave when you like and explore at your own pace.

We can sort this for you: take a look at our car rental in Tenerife page, with pickup at the southern (TFS) and northern (TFN) airports. Having a car also makes supermarket runs, beach-hopping and day trips infinitely easier.
